I’ve been wanting to make some ribbon tape ever since I saw a tutorial to make your own

fabric tape. But I never seem to have kraft tape on hand and cannot find a source for it

locally when I’m out and about and the inspiration to make that pretty fabric tape strikes.

Then I came across a tutorial to make pretty ribbon tape and that DIY used ribbon tape.

But all that got me to thinking about using double-sided tape. Now double-sided tape is

something we usually have around here. Except for yesterday, apparently. And yesterday was

when I was thinking about making those darned pretty fabric and ribbon tapes again. And then

sweet serendipity showed u to say hello – fashion ribbon tape!

"Problem solved" indeed! Why I had a roll of "fashion tape" is beyond me, because wardrobe

malfunctions aren't something I typically encounter. But apparently I bought a roll of the

stuff way back when and tucked it into a drawer. And yesterday - in the midst of this need

to make textile-tape of some sort - I came across it. And you know what? It's just double-

sided tape with a peel-away paper backing. Score!

You can use it just about any way you'd use ribbon tape or fabric tape to decorate anything

and everything. Granted - once this roll of "fashion tape" is all gone, I doubt I'll be

seeking it out specifically for this purpose. However, vellum tape looks like a great

alternative and seems readily available. And one of these days i'll find some kraft tape,

and then all bets are off.

Satin Ribbon Tapes

dull back. Satin ribbon may have a single or double face and mainly used for decoration

purpose. They are characterized by a weave structure in which finer, more numerous warp

threads “float” on top of coarser weft threads, so that the weft is almost completely

hidden beneath the rich warp. This creates a smooth, shiny finishing to satin ribbon tapes.

Foldable Jewelry Card

A foldable jewelry card, capable of securing thereto an article or articles of jewelry, includes a front panel with a forwardly facing surface and a rearwardly facing surface. An intermediate panel is hingedly connected to the front panel, and interconnects the front panel with a rear panel hingedly connected thereto. The rear panel has a forwardly facing surface, a rearwardly facing surface, and a hook portion for supporting the card on a hanger. The rear panel and the front panel are attached to one another in such a manner that the front panel is securely interlocked with the rear panel. The intermediate panel causes the front and rear panels to be at an acute angle with each other whereby the forwardly facing surface of the rear panel substantially faces the rearwardly facing surface of the front panel.

How to Make Jewerly Cards from Business Cards

A handcrafted piece of jewelry is incomplete without an attached tag or card. Jewelry cards can bear such important information as the name, phone number or website of the jewelry designer, the materials used to fashion the piece of jewelry, and the price of the piece of jewelry. Jewelry cards typically feature this pertinent information on one side, and an attractive illustration, stamp, or logo on the other side. They are most durable when made using fairly heavy paper, such as cardstock. While you can cut individual jewelry cards out by hand, you can also make them with business cards.

Choose printer-friendly business card sheets in the color you desire. Keep in mind that lighter colors, such as cream or white, will be easiest to print or write on, as well as embellish with a rubber stamp or other design.

Remove the individual business cards from the sheets by gently popping or pulling them out. Note that there are usually around 12 cards per sheet, and the cards' edges are perforated, making them easy to remove.

Punch a single hole in each card using a hole punch. Position each hole about ¼ inch away from the card's edge.

A jewelry tag substrate comprises a liner, an adhesive and a clear face stock. The clear face stock has a print side and an adhesive side. The liner is disposed proximate said adhesive side so as to support the face stock. An adhesive is disposed between the liner and the face stock. The liner and the adhesive are adapted so that when portions of the face stock are separated from the liner, the adhesive adheres to the adhesive side. Labels and corresponding shanks are defined by the face stock so that the shanks extend from the labels. A top coat is applied to the print side so that the shanks are substantially clear.

Another aspect of a jewelry tag substrate provides a release liner. A substantially clear face stock is disposed over the release liner. Labels and shanks extending from labels are defined ont he face stock. An adhesive is spread on the the release liner so sa to avoid all but tip portions of the shanks. An opaque top coat is applied to the labels in a manner so as to avoid the shanks.

Advantageously, a self-laminating jewelry tag provides a clear laminate that is configured to fold over the label or print area of a jewelry tag so as to protect the printed information from wear, cleaning or other processes that tend to renderthe printing illegible. The jewelry tag label can be adapted for ink jet, laser or thermal printing.

Conventional jewelry tags also detract from the appearance of jewelry on display. Retailers go to considerable effort to hide tag labels in display cases. The portion of the tag that attaches to the jewelry, however, is difficult to cover-up. Advantageously, one embodiment of a clear jewelry tag has a clear shank that reduces tag visibility. In another embodiment, the entire jewelry tag is clear, obviating the need to hide tags, but allowing labels to be read when placed over an opaque background.

Tips for Creating Your Own Jewelry Tags

If you make your own jewelry tags, be sure to use the heaviest cardstock that will work in your printer or copy machine.

Heavier paperstock will help them survive the handling they'll get at jewelry shows and home parties! It is important to use only acid-free paper or cardstock for your jewelry tags and earring cards. Anything else will wind up making your metals tarnish quickly!

You can design your cards in your own custom sizes using a spreadsheet or your wordprocessor's tables feature.

I discovered that a paper-cutter will cut your cards apart much more quickly and evenly than scissors. And to used the same tag layout to create your own earring coards, you can simply print two dots (periods) where you want to poke holes for your earwires to hang from.

You’ll get perfectly even holes every time by having them pre-marked! I then use an awl to punch the earwire holes in the cards.

Have Your Jewelry Tags Professionally Made – Cheaply

You can also have your jewelry tags and earring cards made and cut professionally for as little as a penny per card.

When I printed all of my tags and cards on my inkjet printer, the paper-cutter part became too time consuming for me and I really disliked doing it! So I swithced to having them printed up for me by a local copy shop. I took my earring card / jewelry tag file on disk to the copy shop and had them print out and cut apart a few thousand 2-sided cards.

Then I could just quickly write in the gemstones by hand, which I felt gave the packaging a nice handmade touch. These 2-sided cards cost me about a penny a piece.

If you have your cards done by a copy shop, I recommed explaining to the person who will take care or your order exactly how you will be using the finished cards. Bring a sample of the card and a pair of earrings with you, and show them how you hang your earrings on the cards. Describe how you use and display your jewelry tags with your other jewelry pieces, and how the cards are handled at shows. The copy-shop person may have some great ideas for you, once they understand how the jewelry tags or earring cards will be used.

I was very lucky to have a creative copy person who thought my project was interesting, and suggested some things (such as the rounded corners) that made my cards turn out even better than I expected!

For hanging your earring cards on display racks, you can purchase self-adhesive earring hangers to stick on the back of the cards. These “hangers” are a clear plastic hook with a peel-off adhesive edge that you stick to the top of the back of your card. Then you just hang the earring card on the bars of your earring display.

These self-adhesive little hangers come in about 3 different widths to fit different size earring cards. I have also seen jewelry artists punch a neat round hole in the top center of their cards and hang them on a display that has hooks. Metal buttons can leave stains on clothing if they tarnish or rub excessively on the fabric. Learn how to remove the stains.

Less expensive “gold” metal buttons are made with plated metals or very low karat gold that can react with the air, your skin or cosmetics and change colors. Even sterling silver metal buttons will tarnish or oxide as it reacts with skin and clothing and that tarnish can be transferred to your clothing.

What causes the problem? Make-up is the most common cause of the blackening or smudging. Cosmetics and lotions often contain chemical compounds that when in contact with the metal button wear or rub off very tiny particles of metal which appear as black dust and smudges. Perspiration on our skin produces mild chemicals that are enough to cause corrosion of 14 karat gold much less cheaper metals.

To remove the stains from a washable garment, turn the garment inside out and flush the stained area with cold water. This should force the metallic particles out of hte fibers; then launder as usual. Check the area after washing. If a stain remains, prepare a solution of all-fabric or oxygen bleach and cool water and allow the stain to soak for several hours and relaunder.

If hte garment is dry clean only, point out and identify the stain to your professional cleaner. If you are using a home dry cleaning kit, be sure to treat the stain with provided stain remover before putting the garment in the dryer bag.
